My name is Melissa and I teach Hatha Vinyasa Yoga, a practice that is deeply a part of my life and held very close to my heart.
Over the past ten years my practice has grown and changed with me over time and has grounded me through the many ups and downs of life. When what we learn on the Yoga mat, beyond the physical practice, becomes part of who we are, the practice takes on a deeper meaning. My aim is to help my students understand the wider aspects of Yoga including the importance of Sadhana (personal practice).
As a student, I have explored various styles of yoga asana (this is the physical aspect of practice) including Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Prenatal, Postnatal and Ashtanga Yoga and so through this diverse background of physical practice I want to invite everyone to enjoy Yoga and truly understand that age, fitness level and ability should be no barrier – we can work together to achieve a personal practice that is suitable to you, in a group setting that is non judgmental, non competitive and very supportive.
On Saturday 1 September Yogis East Yoga will become part of the Mundaring Wellness Center family and we are so excited to bring you a regular 8am Saturday morning Vinyasa Yoga class!
This class explores gentle controlled breathing (pranayama) followed by simple flowing movements to cultivate internal heat (Agni) within the body in order to cleanse, invigorate and restore internal balance. We end the class with Yin style poses using bolsters and other props to ground our practice before we transition towards rest (savasana).
The Yogic knowledge that I believe is the most important to understand and that I could share with you is a modern interpretation from ancient yogic philosophy,
“For those who have an intense urge for spirit and wisdom, it sits near them, waiting.”
This means that the ability to find peace in our everyday life is always available to us and rests within our effort and commitment. It is through this effort and commitment within our own personal practice, that we face our barriers, every day, and move beyond them, mentally and physically.
I truly look forward to being part of your yoga journey.
